Today’s reflection

Today’s reflection – Can you still see?

by Joel Boggess on February 21, 2012

If you’re anything like me, it’s easy to lose yourself in the business of what you set your mind to. Then, before you know it, the realization hits; you’ve made good progress going down the wrong road.

We’ve all done this on some level; keeping our nose so close to the grindstone that we lose focus of where we’re going. A lot of it has to do with the culture in which we were raised. Many of us were taught early in life to stay busy.  Then, as we moved into adulthood, the lessons of our youth become our grown-up badges of honor.

The need for a compelling vision is not only a good idea, it is downright Biblical. You might be familiar with the verse that says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” And, while some may see it as a Scripture relating to “vision”, I see another word in there that is intriguing, “perish”; as in “how to perish”.

Today’s reflection: For a vision to be both inspirational and motivational, should it pull you forward or push you from behind?

Had a good time at the Quitter conference in Nashville over the weekend.

Jon was a gracious host and it was a delight to circulate among Dave Ramsey’s team. Everyone made Pei and I feel like family.

The sold-out crowd enjoyed a day-and-a-half of rich content and personal appeal.

One of the participants mentioned that while he was in IT, what he really wanted to do was serve God. And, while that may sound nice, noble, and Christian-like, he framed it in a way where one couldn’t possibly be related to the other. Polar opposites if you will.

Today’s reflection: Are they opposing one another? If so, what could bring them into alignment?

Do you feel that you’re squaring off against yourself every time you punch in for another day?

Have a question? Ask us here.

If you haven’t heard the podcast with best-selling author Jon Acuff, here it is: Quitter.

Today’s reflection: Termination – Blessing or curse?

February 7, 2012

I was listening to a power-packed message from Joyce Meyer this morning and she made a great distinction; the difference between a Divine interruption and a demonic one. In other words – Look closely. Things aren’t always as they may first appear. For instance, let’s say that your neighbor is let-go from her long-time job [...]

Today’s reflection – Could someone you know help steer you into a course correction?

January 31, 2012

For two decades, she wrote charts, comforted families, and brought beside-manner to her patients. And, over time, she developed the skills that would help her not only function, but also excel in the health care field. As her kids were moving on with her lives, she knew that now was the time for her to [...]

Today’s reflection – Can a personal crisis reveal more than what’s on the surface?

January 23, 2012

While it’s not always in the tidiest and neatest of packages, passions can be birthed from unlikely places. Losing her mother to breast cancer at age nine roused a passion in her that is more alive and vibrant than ever before; a passion to bring healing and restoration through alternative health practices. And, as she [...]

Today’s reflection – Won’t you just give me a sign?

January 17, 2012

There’s nothing like a good sermon to stimulate a flurry of ideas and viewpoints. As happens often on Sunday, our pastor challenged the congregation with a refreshing perspective designed to bring hope and encouragement. As Pei and I sat at one of our favorite “after-church” eateries, reflecting on the message and sprinkling in our own [...]

Today’s Reflection – Will you stand out from the crowd?

January 10, 2012

The bag was as light as a feather; but the impact it had, carried all the weight. Having little luck in his job search, he knew if he wanted to make an impression, he had to do something creative, fun and memorable. Armed with an idea he knew would make  a bold statement, he printed [...]

Today’s reflection – Are you willing to just let it go?

January 3, 2012

Wrapped in the throes of uncertainty and emotional chaos, she came to a sobering realization; the only way she could grow from this experience, would be to turn it completely over to God. Having struggled with trying to “fix it” under her own power (like we’ve all done at some point), the discovery, recovery, and [...]

Today’s reflection – Could they have been wrong?

December 20, 2011

I was listening to a podcast recently and the listener mentioned, that while she was an “introvert”, she was also outgoing, social, and liked to be around people. While it was just an email the host was reading and responding to, you could almost sense, (in-between the lines) the frustration the woman was feeling, as [...]
