She was taken by surprise at the question.

I simply asked if she had noticed any irregularities or abnormalities in her health stemming from the occupational mismatch she came to talk about.

And, while initially she said she hadn’t, as she began to grow into her awareness, discovering and recovering some of her best features and enduring qualities, she noticed certain symptoms, (tightening of the chest and shortness of breath) that followed her on the daily commute and festered within her as she walked from the parking lot to the front door.

Her coping routine: steady yourself – catch your breath – pray for grace – go.

As the prayers increased in intensity and in frequency, Kim continued the debate with God; helping Him understand more clearly the realness of her situation while at the same time, poking holes in the plans He was helping her see.

“I need this”, she cried out to God, “I need this.” In essence, God said back to her, “No. You need Me.”

After what must have seemed an eternity, Kim made a decision; a decision to stop arguing with God, and instead, to begin working with Him.

Hesitant to trust fully in her own instincts, she asked God to reveal His truth through her husband. The answer she sought came the very same day.

As I write this short note, Kim Hall from New Hampshire  is experiencing her second day of freedom; freedom from a  job that was clearly out of alignment with who she was, and the freedom to now grow into the woman that God has destined her to become.

Kim also shares:

  • The revelation that money and the paycheck had become an idol;
  • The energy, passion and purpose she found within herself;
  • The ripple effect that is now moving through her family.

It is one of the most difficult things one can do; to look at yourself through the lenses of humility and surrender, and admit that things are “not fine”.

Kim had the courage to not only say it, but to also make the necessary adjustments in her life.

If you find yourself in a situation where you are tired of paying lip service; saying “I’m fine” without truly meaning it. Give yourself a few moments, work through the questionnaire as best as you can, and let’s set up a time to get unstuck.

    I  needed to read this article. I, too, was stuck in the mindset of idolizing money and not realizing that God is in control of all. I mistakenly thought that people (the job) was in control of my financial status, but I learned the hard way that this is not the case. I refuse to get stuck in that rut again.

      Hi Tamara,
      Thanks for your thoughts. Isn’t it amazing how far off the path we can travel before we fall to our knees and see the light? I am so glad to hear you have set the bar never to head in that direction again. Kudos!
