Using just about all the strength she could muster from her tiny frame, the spirit of the eager five year-old, helped propel the rotary motor forward, as she rounded the last corner of her neighbor’s lawn.
A shiny new quarter and a glass of freshly-squeezed lemonade was the going rate, as this young entrepreneur learned the value of her efforts and the willingness of people to pay for a job well done.
In another home, in another town, a young girl learns this valuable business lesson: getting paid to do work is good; paying other people to do the work is far better.
Although her dad put her to work at an early age, commissioning her to paint the fence that surrounded the family property (twenty-five cents a fence post if I remember correctly), she learned quickly, by farming out the job to the neighborhood kids in a Tom Sawyer-like fashion, pocketing her share of the proceeds, while distributing the rest, her nest egg would grow faster than if she were to do it all herself.
And while it took a few years, years filled with false-starts and enriched learning opportunities, these two entrepreneurial-bred ladies would cross paths and combine the best parts of themselves into a thriving real estate and property management practice.
Connie Williams and Sheila Tidwell, hosts of Connie and Sheila Talk, join us on the show and share some of the lessons they’ve picked up in their life’s journey.
In one of the more tearful moments, Connie talks about the tragic loss of her brother and how, after years of bitterness and hostility, she has been able to find emotional and spiritual peace by forgiving the person responsible for the untimely death.
