025 Finding your Voice – 10 years of marriage: Our journey

In my early 30s, I can remember praying a short, but very sincere prayer: “God, I want to be closer to You.”

I would say instantly, but I think at least a few seconds may have ticked off the clock, between my prayer and His answer.

There wasn’t a booming voice from Heaven, lightning bolts streaking through the sky, or even a flashing neon sign, yet I can remember exactly where I was, in my little single-man’s apartment, when a very clear, simple thought, entered my mind, “You need to get married.””

That is all I needed to know. From that point on, it wasn’t about “would I”, “could I”, “should I”; (by the way, when I was in my teens and 20s, marriage was the farthest thing from my mind), it was a question of “with whom?”

God brought Pei and I together in August, 2000 on purpose, for a purpose.

We thank you in advance for listening to our brief story and we hope it is a blessing to you.

Please remember that no matter where you are in life, (single, widowed, divorced, in a bad place) God can take your situation and immediately turn it around for His glory.

What you uncover, God covers. Reach out and share a part of your story if you’d like.

In our brief podcast we share:

  • The timing that surrounded our first meeting;
  • The choice to elope instead of going the traditional route;
  • Our false expectations of marriage and of each other;
  • The early struggles with debt and career;
  • The lessons we learned about our personality styles and how they were designed to complete, rather than compete;
  • The realization that we needed to combine our best features and enduring qualities into our own opportunity.

We mentioned this show in our podcast – The power of knowing yourself. We are so excited for Anita and what she is doing with what she learned from the conference.

      Hi Glenn,

      Thank you for listening and for your kind words.

      The blessing has been amazing on us.

    On a fun note…I can still envision that first dance with Pei…a sight to behold and I’m still laughing thinking about it. But all kidding aside, I loved this interview. It was great hearing some of the details of your life together and what God is currently moving both of you into. Thank you for sharing your story.

     Two things stood out; that you are truly able to embrace each others uniqueness in the midst of the differences, and that if you put your two personality styles on top of the other they form completeness.

      Hi Cindy,

      Thank you for listening and sharing your kind words.

      I completely agree with you: completion of one another and a celebration of individual uniqueness is a wonderful recipe.
